Sanap Cliffs (Tas-Sanap) are the cliffs of Munxar, on the south coast of Gozo, between Xlendi Bay and the Ta' Ċenċ (Ta' Cenc) plateau. According to Visit Gozo, the official Gozo tourism website, these cliffs and the Ta' Ċenċ cliffs that continue them are the highest on the island, and their viewpoint is sought after for its sunsets. The facts were read on 19 October 2026 on Visit Gozo, on the bus website (Malta Public Transport), at the US Naval Observatory (USNO) for sun times and on the pages of the operator of our tours. Bus times can change: check before you go.

Getting to Sanap Cliffs: bus, car or on foot
First you need to cross to Gozo: ferries, times and fares are in our guide how to get to Gozo from Malta. All ferries arrive at Mġarr (Mgarr) harbour.
By bus
At Mġarr harbour, take route 301 to Victoria bus station (the harbour stop is called "Vapur"). In Victoria, take route 306 towards Xlendi and get off at the "Munxar" stop, about 5 minutes later. The bus website does not say which stop is closest to the cliffs: from the village, follow the walk described below.
A ticket is valid for 2 hours, changes included: one ticket covers route 301 and then route 306 if you change within that time. You pay the driver in cash, by contactless card or with your phone. Children under 4 travel free. Times: route 306 on the Malta Public Transport website.
On foot from Munxar
Visit Gozo describes the walk: from Munxar's main square, a country lane climbs right up to the edge of the cliffs, at Il-Pinnur, the highest point of the area. Visit Gozo gives neither the distance nor the walking time.
On foot from Xlendi
In Xlendi Bay, cross the bridge to the headland where Xlendi Tower stands, then follow the coastal path: it leads to Tas-Sanap, according to Visit Gozo. On the way you pass boulders with curious shapes, carved by erosion. Visit Gozo also mentions an inland route through the terraced fields between Munxar and Xlendi.
Visit Gozo's "Xlendi Walk" goes further: from Mġarr harbour to Xlendi Bay, along the coast at Xatt l-Aħmar, Mġarr ix-Xini Bay, Sannat and the cliffs of Ta' Ċenċ and Sanap, then through Munxar. Its route description (a PDF) is on the Visit Gozo hiking page.
By car
To take a car to Gozo, you need the ferry from Ċirkewwa (Cirkewwa), the only one that carries cars. On the island, the edge of Munxar is a ten-minute walk south-west of Victoria, according to Visit Gozo. None of the official pages we read mention a car park at the cliffs.
What to see near Sanap Cliffs: Xlendi and Ta' Ċenċ
The cliffs carry on to Ta' Ċenċ, in Sannat, on the edge of a plateau of garrigue rich in plants and wildlife (Visit Gozo). There are prehistoric remains there, including three dolmens. From Ta' Ċenċ, a path leads down to Ras in-Newwiela, a point jutting out into the sea.

On the other side lies Xlendi Bay: a small sandy and pebbly beach for a swim, Xlendi Tower, built in 1650 and the oldest free-standing coastal watchtower in Gozo, and Caroline's Cave, reached by steps (Visit Gozo). Routes 306 and 330 go there. Everything is in our guide to Xlendi.
