Driving a buggy on Gozo: what is different
You drive a buggy like a small car: a steering wheel, a seat, a seat belt.
A steering wheel, no gears
The buggy is automatic, so there are no gears to change. You steer with the wheel along Gozo's country lanes and dirt tracks.
Side by side, belted in
Two seats next to each other, each with its own seat belt. A roll bar protects the cockpit. Yippee provides a helmet, and you wear it in the buggy too.
Who is it for?
For anyone who would rather drive without handlebars: as a couple, with friends, or with a child aged 5 or over as your passenger. Two adults aged 21 or over, each with a licence, can take turns at the wheel.
Where the buggy takes you on Gozo
Stops on the full-day guided tour. The convoy also drives past Xlendi, the Ta' Pinu Basilica, Wied il-Għasri and Marsalforn. With the 3-course lunch, the route changes: Qala, Ramla Bay, Xewkija and Dwejra.

Dwejra and the Inland Sea
In the west, near San Lawrenz. The Azure Window stood here until 2017, and the bay was a filming location for the first season of Game of Thrones.

The salt pans near Marsalforn
At Xwejni, pans carved into the rock at the water's edge. Salt still dries there in the sun, especially in summer.

Two ways to pay, depending on the tour: per person when two of you share one buggy, or per buggy for a driver alone or a driver with a passenger. Driving a buggy alone on a per-person tour costs more: the exact price appears when you book.
Before you take the wheel
Always with a guide
The buggy is yours for the tour, but you follow the guide in convoy. The guide knows the tracks and tells you about each stop. We do not offer self-drive buggy hire.
The driver's licence
At least 21, with an original driving licence to show on the day of the tour: a copy or a photo is not enough. With Yippee, closed shoes are required to drive.
Included in the price
Pick-up at your hotel in Malta, the boat to Gozo, an insured buggy, a guide and a meal: a picnic, a 3-course lunch or a Mediterranean platter, depending on the tour.
Good to know before booking
- The full-day tour runs daily, all year; the sunset rides, from mid-April to mid-October.
- You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure. With Yippee, a €25 deposit per person is enough to book.
- Passengers: minimum age 5 on Yippee tours. For other tours, the age is shown on the tour's page.
- Yippee applies a €450 excess if you cause an accident or if the buggy is damaged.
- Comino tours: a swim stop at Comino, in the Blue Lagoon or the Crystal Lagoon. Yippee says there is no Blue Lagoon pass to book on their tours.
- Sea too rough? You take the ferry to Gozo, and the tickets are included.

Do I need a licence to drive a buggy in Gozo?
Yes: the driver needs their original driving licence and must be 21 or over. A copy, a photo or a provisional licence will not be accepted.
Can a child ride in the buggy?

Buggy or quad: what is the difference?
You drive a buggy with a steering wheel, seat belts and a roll bar, with your passenger beside you. You ride a quad with handlebars, with the passenger sitting behind. With Yippee, the route, the prices and what is included are the same.

No, not with us. You drive the buggy yourself, but always behind a guide; transport from your hotel and the boat to Gozo are included.
Is the buggy suitable for beginners?
Yes. It is automatic; before departure, the guide explains how to drive it and the safety rules, then leads the group from the front.
What should I bring?
The driver's original licence and closed shoes. Also bring swimwear for the tours with Comino, and in summer for the swim stop on the full-day tour.
Does the buggy tour run in winter?
The full-day tour does: it leaves every day, whatever the season. The sunset versions run from mid-April to mid-October.
