SHOWCASES & LIVE
Artist showcases, French rap and live performances in an open-air setting unique to Malta.
Malta's alternative club: 70 years of history, open-air and underground.
Tigullio is no ordinary club. Founded over 70 years ago on the shores of Spinola Bay, it is one of the most history-laden venues in Maltese nightlife: a roller-skating rink turned concert hall, then landmark club. Now fully renovated, Tigullio is a multi-space complex hosting artist showcases, French rap nights, French and international music, and live events all summer long.
Its singularity: a hybrid space blending arts, culture and clubbing. On weekdays the complex hosts workshops, jam sessions and performances. At weekends it transforms into an open-air club with an outdoor concert stage, a spacious dancefloor and an indoor space. It is one of the best addresses in Malta to see artists perform live in an open, festive setting.
Triq Mikel Ang Borg, Spinola Bay, St Julian's, a stone's throw from Paceville. Walkable from most hotels in the area. Bolt and taxis remain easiest on weekends.
It is at weekends that the complex transforms into an open-air club with a live stage. For artist showcases, arrive early: these nights often sell out.
Access reserved for ages 17 and over. A valid ID is required at the door (passport or national ID). Booking ahead is recommended for showcases.
Smart casual. The spirit is more alternative and relaxed than the premium clubs of Paceville, but a tidy outfit is still appreciated.
Indoor and outdoor bars across the complex. Cocktails, beer and soft drinks. Prices vary by event and space.

Tigullio is no ordinary club. Founded over 70 years ago on the shores of Spinola Bay, it is one of the most history-laden venues in Maltese nightlife: a roller-skating rink turned concert hall, then landmark club. Now fully renovated, Tigullio is the go-to spot for French rap nights, artist showcases and French and international music in Malta.
The story begins in the 1950s, when a garden in Spinola Bay was converted into an open-air roller-skating rink. British officers from Pembroke and Maltese high society would gather to skate to live orchestras. A few years later, an architect from the Italian region of Tigullio was commissioned to turn the venue into a nightclub, hence the name. The club quickly became one of the busiest discos in Malta, built in Maltese stone, surrounded by trees and esparto grass.
After closing in the 1990s, Tigullio was reborn under a new concept: an arts, social and nightclub complex. On weekdays the venue hosts workshops, jam sessions and live performances; at weekends the transformation is total, with an outdoor concert stage, an open-air dancefloor and an indoor space. It is in this unique setting that French-speaking artists come to perform live showcases in Malta: French rap, international hip-hop, French and urban music, in one of the only clubs on the island offering this live format. For the French-speaking community and French tourists, Tigullio is an essential address: it is where rap nights and showcases happen in Malta, in a place with 70 years of history and the soul of somewhere unlike anything else in Paceville.
